Daily Meditations for Holy Week:

Day 4 Signs in the Heavens
Wednesday

John 12

Now a great many of the Jews knew that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead. But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also, because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.

Luke 19

And as He went, many spread their clothes on the road. Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen.

Prior to the shocking display of His death by Roman crucifixion, multitudes followed Jesus because of the miracles He did everywhere He went. Those who had seen His miracles had been present when Lazarus was raised from the dead. These were the same who welcomes Him with shouts of “Hosanna!” and laid palm branches on the road. After Jesus’ death only those who continued to hang on every word of God came into the display of His mighty power.

What is impossible for man by the strength of his flesh is the glory of God performed by His Spirit through miracles. The restoration of God’s power to the church through miracles displays the rising of His coming. Blessed is He who comes! People are drawn to the display of God’s power. As we follow Jesus His miracles will follow us.

The realms of heaven and earth were lit by great lights on the fourth day of God’s creation. Signs in the heavens announced the birth of Christ and death of Christ. Signs of healing and deliverance wherever the gospel is preached announce His resurrection from the dead. We pray, “Son of Righteousness arise with healing in your wings! Make us ministers of your healing grace through mighty deeds of healing, deliverance, signs, and wonders done in your name.” Amen.

Our fourth meditation is from Psalm 8:

     A psalm of David.

    1 O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
    You have set your glory
    above the heavens.

2 From the lips of children and infants
    you have ordained strength
    because of your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.

3 When I consider your heavens,
    the work of your fingers,
    the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,

4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?

5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.

    6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands;
you put everything under his feet:

    7 all flocks and herds,
and the beasts of the field,

8 the birds of the air,
and the fish of the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

    9 O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

From our family to yours, may the blessings of Easter surround you this season. HE IS RISEN!
