Weekly Watch Focus: Mother's Day—A Time to Honor

FRIDAY, May 12, 2017—The Bible instructs us all to honor our parents. In fact, it is the first commandment with a blessing:

Exod. 20:12, “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.”
Eph. 6:2, “‘Honor your father and mother,’ which is the first commandment with promise.”

This year, as we celebrate Mother’s Day, let us be thankful for our parents—specifically our mothers—and speak a blessing over them. Speak a blessing over all the mothers, both natural and spiritual, in your church and community. Take time this week to specifically communicate with your mother how she has blessed your life.

We take note that society thrives when it embraces a culture of honor for elders and those in authority. Let us reject and repent of a culture that worships at the altar of youth, disdaining and disrespecting the wisdom and blessing of our elders. This same spirit of disrespect leads to disdain for the unborn. Let us as watchmen and intercessors release fresh blessings on all mothers. We also ask that mothers release fresh blessings on their children and grandchildren. May we also receive blessings in the church from all our spiritual mothers.

In the context of blessing, may this also be a season of healing broken relationships and restoration of families. Welcome the Holy Spirit, the great Comforter, to come and fill those empty places with His love, healing, and refreshing, making all things new.
