Weekly Watch Focus: Japan

FRIDAY, MARCH 18, 2011. We pray for Japan. We stand in intercession for the Japanese people as they begin recovery from the recent 9.0 magnitude earthquake, devastating tsunami and the ongoing threat from three severely damaged nuclear reactors. Whole villages have been washed away and 10s of 1,000s of people are unaccounted for. The hardest hit areas are still without food, electricity and fresh water. On top of this, 100s of thousands of people are being evacuated as the Japanese government attempts to keep several damaged reactors from compounding the destruction with a nuclear meltdown.

God’s response to chaos and disaster is always redemption! From Genesis through Revelation, God invites His friends to stand in the gap and cry mercy. Because Jesus, the Great Intercessor, has redeemed us with His blood, we are a point of contact for His victory, His provision and His peace to invade the earth through our prayers. We are His royal priesthood with authority to bring God's peace to any storm. Let us plead the blood of the victorious Lamb over Japan.

Declare shalom to the nuclear reactors. Begin to declare shalom to the families who have been torn apart, lost loved ones and homes in the tsunami. Declare God’s wisdom and understanding to the teams that are working on the nuclear reactor crisis, searching for survivors and serving the displaced. Pray for an awakening for the people of Japan in the midst of this turmoil, that they would find true comfort and peace in the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ.

2 Sam. 24:25b, So the LORD heeded the prayers for the land, and the plague was withdrawn from Israel.

Ps. 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

Joel 2:17 “Between the vestibule and the altar let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep and say, ‘Spare your people, O Lord’” (Joel 2:17).
