Weekly Watch Focus: Yom Kippur-—The Day of Atonement

FRIDAY, September 29, 2017—Today marks the beginning of the holiest day of the year, Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. We give honor to Jesus Christ for the expiation of our sins and the salvation of our souls through the Day of Atonement. This day only happens once per year, signifying that Christ died once for us, the Just for the unjust, to bring us to the heavenly Father. As our High Priest, He offered His blood within the veil, making atonement for the sins of all (Lev. 16:29). Only then could the Trumpet of the Jubilee sound forth on the Tenth day of the Seventh month. May we set aside this week to spend quality time in His presence, and honor the atoning work of our High Priest, Jesus.  May we humble our souls before the awesomeness of the shed blood of Calvary by which we have access to the throne of grace. Let us enter boldly through Jesus’ precious blood to obtain grace and favor for ourselves, our children, and others who need His divine touch of mercy. Now we can enter into rest and cry out for mercy, revival, restoration, and refreshing for our nation and hungry souls from every nation. May there be a turnaround. May the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob protect our nation. We pray for Israel and all our Jewish friends across the world, that they may experience the blessing of God also. Let us pray for God's continued divine protection for Israel. We also join our prayers with thousands of Christians across the globe this Sunday on the Day to Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem.

Part 2: Pray for Puerto Rico

One week after hurricane Maria hit, 97 percent of Puerto Rico is still without power and fifty percent of residents do not have any running water. Food is scarce, and people are resorting to rationing limited goods and getting water from streams or rainwater.

Pray for those who have suffered loss of life and homes. Pray for relief aid and emergency resources to reach those who are in desperate need. Honor our armed forces that are deployed in the recovery of Puerto Rico. The U.S. has deployed vessels, troops, and a floating hospital to alleviate this humanitarian crisis. Pray also for Christian organizations like Samaritan’s Purse who are providing emergency aid and disaster relief. We ask for turnaround and restoration for Puerto Rico. We also continue to pray for the areas of Texas and Florida still recovering from hurricanes Harvey and Irma

Leviticus 16:29-30, "This shall be a statute forever for you: In the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether a native of your own country or a stranger who dwells among you. For on that day the priest shall make atonement for you, to cleanse you, that you may be clean from all your sins before the Lord."

Hebrews 4:16, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
