Weekly Watch Focus: Freedom from Opioid Addiction
FRIDAY, March 9, 2018— “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it” (Colossians 2:15).
This week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that opioid overdoses increased by nearly thirty percent across the US in fourteen months. 115 people are dying each day, and thousands of others are devastated as they or a loved one struggles with addiction. Authorities across the nation have expressed deepest concern over the spread of addiction that is crippling our nation. This trend touches all regions, demographics, and all corners of society, with the nation’s death rate from opioid overdoses now surpassing total deaths from homicides and car accidents combined.
Bind the spirit of addiction plaguing America. Pray for a fresh wave of deliverance to come to set individuals and regions free from this plague of addiction. This crisis is hurting families, leaving children orphaned or in foster care, and destroying communities. Let us specifically pray to break this stronghold and pray for healing. Bind corruption. Pray for federal and local law enforcement to apprehend those involved in drug trafficking. May the Lord help break the power of the drug cartels. Pray federal and state agencies to have wisdom to set policies in place that will help eradicate this deadly cycle and restore those bound to opiates.

Psalms 102:18-21, “This will be written for the generation to come, that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord. For He looked down from His holy height; from heaven the Lord gazed upon the earth, to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to set free those who were doomed to death, that men may tell of the name of the Lord in Zion and His praise in Jerusalem.”
Isaiah 61:1, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners.”
Ephesians 6:12, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Jeremiah 31:16-17, “Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded, says the Lord, and they shall come back from the land of the enemy. There is hope in your future, says the Lord, that your children shall come back to their own border.”
Colossians 2:15, “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”
