Weekly Watch Focus: Pause to Give Thanks

Friday, July 13, 2018—All twelve Thai youth and their soccer coach are safely out of the watery tunnel where they were trapped for eighteen days. People across the world are calling this a miracle. Praise the Lord for His answer to our prayers! Bless the Lord for the volunteers and equipment from several nations, including the U.S., who assisted in the rescue. “O give thanks to the Lord; for He is good; for His mercy endures forever” (Psalm 106:1).

We pray for the family of former Thai Navy Seal, Saman Gunan, who lost his life in the rescue. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

Give thanks for President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, a Constitution originalist who reveres our Judea Christian foundations. Surround the nomination process with prayer throughout the Senate Judiciary Hearings. Pray this seat will be filled swiftly and righteously. “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice” (Proverbs 29:2).

Psalm 100:1-5, “Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands!  Serve the Lord with gladness; come before His presence with singing.  Know that the Lord, He is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves.  We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise.  Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.  For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.”

1 Timothy 2:1-4, “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
